What is the Warkauden Kassiopeia?

Warkauden Kassiopeia is an amateur astronomical association from Varkaus and its main functions are:
1) To make astronomy better known among people.

2) To develop the education of the astronomy.

3) To cooperate with other astronomical associations.

4) To make observations and research in field of astronomy

Basic information and activities

Warkauden Kassiopeia was founded in Autum 2001 when group of people, whose were interested from astronomy, gathered together.

Now there are about 140 members in our association and the range of ages is from 15 to 60+. There are four "sections" in Warkauden Kassiopeia. These sections are the observation section, education section, computer section and the observatory section.

Warkauden Kassiopeia arranges many kind of activities for its members. Weekly event is observation night (Saturday) where members can watch the wonders of the sky. Our observation place is in Härkämäki (Taurus Hill), which is a little hill in a village of Kangaslampi.

Warkauden Kassiopeia has build an observatory to Härkämäki. The construction of the observatory began at the end of the summer 2002 and it was completed in the early spring of the year 2004. Now Taurus Hill Observatory (as we call it) is one of the biggest amateur observatories in Finland. In the future Warkauden Kassiopeias main goal is to start a real research in field of astronomy.
